Black Bird Group is an independent, non-governmental security analysis and intelligence organisation. We work on the war in Ukraine, the Russian military, emerging international security and security in Northern Europe including the Arctic. Our methods combine comprehensive open-source research with commercial satellite imagery as well as extensive field and expert networks.
Research programmes
Supporting Ukraine and tracking Russia’s war of aggression has been our top priority since day one. We publish both an interactive up-to-date frontlines situation map as well as more detailed and thematically focused reports and public white papers.
We want to understand how the Russian military is changing after Finland’s and Sweden’s membership in NATO as well as the full scale war against Ukraine. We want Europe to better understand how a potential conflict between NATO and Russia would play out to help us prevent it. We focus on measured observed behaviour rather than stated intent.
We study Finland’s regional security environment, and what the war in Ukraine has already changed about it — including the Arctic and NATO’s High North.
Black Bird Group works in cooperation with Finnish National Defence Training Association (MPK). Our personnel produce training, provides open-source material and participates in planning of future training programs in support of the Finnish reservist and national comprehensive security concept.
